Nyssa Brown (she/her) lives, works, and plays in Moh’kinsstis (Calgary, Treaty 7 Territory).

A life-long artist and nature-lover, she completed her BFA at AUArts in 2012, while continuing to learn to play music. In 2013, not soon after moving back west from a brief period in Montreal did she find herself working as a community support worker in the disability field while also playing music in the local DIY punk scene. 
Intuitively, Nyssa began weaving her penchant for artistic, playful, nature-based and DIY approaches into her supportive role with folks with developmental disabilities. By 2019, Nyssa began training in Expressive Arts Therapy*, a relatively new creative field that deeply resonated with the way she instinctively worked with people. It was amazing to her that there was this existing framework that aligned with her vision of harmonizing the naturally therapeutic qualities of art with an accessible, person-centered approach.

She has completed her diploma from Vancouver Expressive Arts, accrediting her with the title of Certified Expressive Arts Therapist.

While digesting and applying theory to her work with people and organizations in Calgary, Nyssa continues to take in nourishment through her personal arts practices as well as performing and touring with bands, caring for her dog, marveling at plants, and relaxing in simple sunbeams.

Presently, Nyssa is in her final year of studies at the European Graduate School, completing a Master’s degree in Expressive Arts Therapy.
